Lights, delights… and friends
The
sun had done its job for the day. It was now heading steadily towards the
horizon leaving the sky above in hues that were not exactly bright and happy. If
not for science, people would have probably believed that the sky was actually
grieving sun’s departure! But now we know it’s not exactly a romantic
relationship that the sky and sun shares. Thoughts ran across Abhishek’s mind
as he looked out of his window.
He
wondered if the day had flown by really fast, or was it actually one of the
slowest days he experienced. A day away from work is usually a time when he
would find himself engaging in cherished moments with his close friends. But the
day was clearly different. This one was spent alone. This day he spent glued to his bed, sleeplessly… at times checking his mail with failed attempts
to seem busy. He even tried reading a bit. The book did not seem appealing and
he was back to where he was… by himself.
Not
that it was forced on him, but he was wondering if he had any other choice at
all! It was not often that he would give much thought to his friendships. It
was more often than not taken for granted. His
friends are his. And they will be. No matter what! But this day was
different. He could not figure the trigger point but his mind would not move
beyond the same point. Where does he
stand, without his friends?
As
the last flickers of sunlight was replaced by white moonlight the sky seemed to
have change. Do people too change with
new relationships? And do new relationships mean an end to
older ones?
Abhishek
suddenly realized he was rather hungry. He did have lunch, but it was not quite
the Sunday lunch he was used to. This one was devoid of emotions. It was plain chicken…
As he looked into his room he was stunned to see it was completely dark. For a
moment the room seemed little more than what his mind was… vacuum. Abhishek
scrambled for the switches. As the room got back to its familiar self as soon
as the light hit its walls, Abhishek found a minor relief.
Deciding
he had enough of thoughts for one day he went in for a quick shower. Water
always seem to be a good company, especially when it hits his head and rolled
through his back. He realized he was actually pretty sweaty and the shower did
a world of good.
Dressed
in his Sunday casuals, Abhishek rushed through the stairs to his bike and
zoomed out. The streetlights did wonders to the road. He headed to a café he
liked. The coffee always cheered him up. The
night should be different. Coffee, streetlights and him… And maybe a movie… how
about some company!! He knew exactly
who to call. Someone he had been planning to meet but always put it in the
backburner as he kept busy with work and his group of friends.
The
night was fun. The new company did good
too. Well new friends seem to be a
good idea…

He
had not quite rolled his curtains. As the sun lit up the sky back to its bright
and cheerful self its ray also made way into Abhishek’s room, knocking sleep
off his body. He looked out. The sky looked happy in the sun’s company. Usual. Well it did not look bad in moon’s company
either while the sun spent
hours elsewhere… interesting.

As
Abhishek smiled at his thoughts the phone rang. He looked at the screen, wonder
why such an early call. It was barely 6am. He pressed the green button and held
the phone to his ear.
“Kaha
hai be. Where the hell are you? Your phone was switched off last night. We even
went to your place….”
“Well,
I was out for a movie with some friends,” he replied almost breaking into a
grin.
“Stupid.
We planned an entire surprised and went with a cake. Anyways Happy Birthday… ab
bata, where is the party!”
“I
thought you guys forgot... you been seemingly too busy… and you rascals, that’s
all you care about. The party!”
“Well,
ok… cut the crap. For now let’s just cut the cake. I have been waiting to eat
it... and dude you are coming to my place now. The sun is shining too bright
and it’s hot already at this hour. I am NOT going out now, especially after
trying to track you all night!”
Abhishek
laughed. Well the sun definitely is shining
bright!
liked it.:-)
