Time to be more responsible?

Mumbai has been rocked again by a series of blasts killing killing 150 people and injuring over 700.
The blasts which occured in locations through out the city has been accused of being handiwork of the LeT which is backed by Pakistan.

The blasts were extensively reported by the media. And three days later it's after effects are still on front page. Quite rightly so.

But have we ever come across a report about what happens to the victims after they get out of hospital? Do they live a normal life again? Were the compensated? Many people lose their limbs or any other part if the body. Families die living children orphaned, wives widowed with no money or support. We never hear about them.

Of course the media has to report what's happening at the moment so such things take a backseat. But we do find reports and photo's, in newspapers, of Tendulkar offering puja at some temple while that space could be used to other effects - letting the world know about stories which had happened but gradually forgotten over the time. Rahul Mahajan episode was lapped up by the media - every channel showing him recovering and taken into custosy and then bail...
Who Rahul Mahajan? Why talk about him? There are millions of people who use drugs. I have seen friends smoking Ganja. Couldn't there be something done to stop everyone from using it rather than glamourising it, which teh media does!

Ofcoures costs matters, and also what people like's to see. But there is also a mid-way. There could be reserved slots ans spaces for such stories, which bring out facts about old stories. This could be a good way to expose corruption too!

Mumbai recently has also seen huge floods. There were thousands effected. We dont know how they are doing now. May be the media, which is referred to as the fourth estate, take up more responsibility towards the society.

  1. Interesting aspect. I hadnt thought about it.
Ethical Reasons: Something I keep fighting for most of the time, but somehow doesnt seem to work in this commercialised world.

I would like to bring about a point over here, the sensationalisation of stories in NDTV. When they realised that the public was becoming aggressive, they shifted their whole aspect and made it more "senti" and "emotional" . Somehow, I felt it was over dramamtised.
