Arise … it is high time

“AAMI AXOMIYA NOHOI DUKHIY BULI XANTONA DILE NOHOBO”

IF any Assamese had not previously not given heed to this famous song by Dr Bhupen Hazarika, now it is time they do. The reason: Assam is no more Golden and in fact if not taken proper care may crumble as an earthen lamp.

A land rich in natural resources, with world heritage sites such as Kaziranga National Park and Majuli is not rich economically. Not rich enough to protect even the heritage sites.

Not that Assam has not advanced. A drive through Guwahati is more than enough to confirm that modern age trotted into the state. But is the development in par with the loans sanctioned for the state. And even Guwahati is still a B2 city, lagging far behind Patna.

The per capita income of the State as on 2004-05 is Rs 13,925 against the national average of Rs 23,308. This is plainly due to the lack of industrialization and lack of investment.

contd. later

( guys ..send in suggestion as to what should be the prime focus for the development of Assam)
