Is cricket still the boss of all sports in India?

The recent times have seen the Indian population glued to others sports rathehr than cricket. Although it's more of The world cup footbal, but Credit must be attributed to the success stories in other sports. Sania Mirza has been a constant draw to tennis after Paes and Bhupati. We have a world champ archer in Jayanta Talukdar, RS Rathore has generated interested in Shooting, Viswanathan Anand has always been among the best in Chess, and Anju Bobby George is constanly proving her mettle. Talents are sprouting in other sports too.

All this while Indian cricket has been playing non stop cricket at home and abroad. The cricket team has also been performing reasonably well winning the test series in WI after 38 years.

So are the people drifting away from the 'religion'? Well, we still see people standing in front of TV showrooms watching the TV intently while India's matches are being shown. But it would not be wrong to claim that people no longer would go for a day's off during a Indo-Pak match (they watch it in office! ).

Also we see children no longer wishing to be just a Sachin Tendulkar. There are wishes to become a Baichun Bhutia or even better Zidane, Sania Mirza or Dhanraj Pillai. Guess sports in the country is coming of age!
